Chester Golf Club offers a Russell Breeden-designed layout tucked into rural Chester County. This 18-hole, par-72 public course stretches 6,811 yards from the tips and features TifEagle Bermuda greens, tree-lined fairways and plenty of reasons to bring your A-game. Practice facilities, PGA instruction and online tee times make it easy to plan your round. Daily-fee play is welcome, and memberships and tournaments are also available.

Republic Golf Club – Great Falls

Short on holes (9), long on charm. Perfect for a casual round with views, challenges and fast greens that punch above their weight. Republic Golf Club has been part of the local landscape since 1924. This 9-hole, par-36 course spans 3,154 yards and offers a relaxed, small-town playing experience that’s perfect for a quick round. The Bermuda greens roll true, the fairways are well-kept, and the atmosphere is friendly and unpretentious. It’s a semi-private club, but visitors are welcome. Tee times aren’t usually needed. There’s no driving range, but you can walk or ride, and green fees are easy on the wallet. It’s approachable, enjoyable and just the right kind of old-school.

Cheraw State Park Golf Course – Cheraw

Designed by Tom Jackson, Cheraw State Park Golf Course blends great golf with natural beauty, winding through tall pines along the edge of Lake Juniper. This 18-hole, par-72 course stretches nearly 7,000 yards and offers wide fairways, gently sloped greens and just enough bunkering to keep you sharp. It’s part of a state park and a Certified Audubon International Wildlife Sanctuary, so expect peaceful play with zero house-lined fairways—just you, the trees and maybe a heron or two. Walk or ride, book online or in the pro shop, and ask about stay-and-play packages like the popular “Links on the Lake.”

Green River Country Club – Chesterfield

Green River Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course just south of the North Carolina line, where peaceful fairways wind through mature pines and hardwoods. The front nine is flat and friendly, while the back nine throws in elevation changes, doglegs, and a few well-placed ponds to keep things interesting. At 6,706 yards, it’s playable for all levels—and walkable, if you’re up for a bit of a workout. Bermuda fairways and greens, a driving range and a putting green round things out. No tee times required. Green River keeps things casual, uncrowded and easy to enjoy.

White Plains Golf Club – Pageland

This family-friendly course makes room for big drives and big fun. White Plains Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course that’s as friendly to walkers as it is to weekend foursomes. Designed by Eddie Riccoboni and opened in 1968, the course stretches 6,361 yards from the tips, with multiple tee boxes down to around 4,600 yards. Wide fairways and smooth TifEagle Bermuda greens make it playable for all skill levels. The pace of play usually keeps rounds around the four-hour mark. Amenities include a driving range, snack bar and pro shop. Tee times are recommended, and public play is welcome alongside active leagues, tournaments and events.

Kershaw Golf Course – Kershaw

Kershaw Golf Course, also known as Kershaw Country Club, is a public 18-hole, par-72 layout stretching 6,031 yards. Originally built as a 9-hole WPA project in 1933, it expanded to 18 holes in 2004 with updates by designer David Johnson. The course balances shorter yardage with classic design and a few subtle challenges, making it great for casual players and returning golfers alike. Amenities include a 15-tee driving range, snack bar and clubhouse with event space. Affordable rates, daily public play and weekly specials like “all-day play” Tuesdays make this a laid-back favorite with real local character.

Carolina Lakes Golf Club – Indian Land

Carolina Lakes Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 public course located near the Catawba River, offering a scenic and challenging round across roughly 7,124 yards from the back tees. Designed by Tim Freeland and opened in 2006, the layout features Bermuda fairways, G2 bentgrass greens, and bold bunkering throughout. Edgewater Golf Club – Lancaster

Peaceful, pristine and plenty challenging, this tucked-away track has championship vibes without the crowds. Edgewater Golf Club is an 18-hole public course in quiet rolling terrain near Fishing Creek Lake. At 7,103 yards from the tips, this par-72 layout—designed by Bruce Brodsky—has earned a reputation as one of the Carolinas’ most challenging. Expect dramatic elevation changes, fast A1/A4 bentgrass greens and plenty of shot-making strategy. A full practice facility, well-stocked pro shop and relaxed grill round out the experience. Public play is welcome year-round, with online tee times and the “Edge” loyalty program for frequent players. Edgewater is all about premium golf without the fuss.

Lancaster Golf Club – Lancaster

Well-kept, friendly and playable for all levels. Great for a relaxed round or when you want to work on consistency. Lancaster Golf Club offers a mix of classic and modern design. The 18-hole, par-72 course plays 6,538 yards, with a front nine designed by Donald Ross (1939) and a tighter, tree-lined back nine added in 1959. Amenities include a pro shop, snack bar, practice green and PGA instruction. Public play is welcome, with affordable memberships and online tee times. A covered patio and gazebo make it a favorite for tournaments and community events.

Fort Mill Golf Club – Fort Mill

This is a classic 18-hole, par-72 course with serious design pedigree—Donald Ross crafted the front nine in 1948, and George Cobb added the back in 1959. At 6,801 yards, it’s a walker-friendly layout with tree-lined fairways and a nostalgic feel, just minutes from Charlotte. Part of the Leroy Springs collection, Fort Mill is open for public play with online tee times and memberships available. The club features a driving range, practice greens and a snack bar, plus instruction and junior programs like The First Tee. It’s timeless golf with a local feel.

Pine Creek Golf Course – Camden

Since 1933, this community course has welcomed all skill levels. Pine Creek Golf Course in Camden is a public 18-hole, par-72 layout playing roughly 6,373 yards through tall pines and alongside winding creeks. Formerly White Pines, the course has been revitalized under new local ownership with upgraded carts, excellent ultra-dwarf Bermuda greens, and a full practice facility. With affordable rates, no tee times required, and a relaxed, local-friendly vibe, it’s easy to see why players keep coming back. Weekly events like the “Bunny Hop” 9-hole scramble add to the charm, and a small clubhouse offers snacks and a pro shop for day-of essentials.

Pinetuck Golf Club – Rock Hill

This wooded, 18-hole public course in Rock Hill offers no parallel holes and plenty of natural beauty. At 6,567 yards (par 71), it’s known for smooth, well-kept greens and peaceful, wildlife-filled surroundings. Signature hole #17—a par 3 over water to a two-tiered green—is a favorite for shot-shapers. Facilities include a driving range, practice green, and laid-back clubhouse with a bar and snack bar. Weekly scrambles (Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays) draw a loyal crowd. Tee times are available by phone or online, but walk-ins are welcome. Great golf, no frills, no fuss.

Spring Lake Country Club – York

A picturesque course with tight Bermuda fairways and a water-crossing signature hole, Spring Lake Country Club is a semi-private 18-hole course offering a scenic, tree-lined layout just 30 minutes from Charlotte. Stretching 6,748 yards (par 72), it features large, rolling greens. Hole #9 challenges players with a water carry to the green on a short par 4. Practice facilities, a pro shop and clubhouse grill round out the amenities. Reserved tee times are recommended, and public play is typically welcome. Springfield Golf Club – Fort Mill

Stretching 6,906 yards, it features hilly terrain, MiniVerde greens and scenic holes along Sugar Creek. Elevation changes, creek carries and multiple tees make it playable yet challenging. The club’s standout practice facility includes a spacious driving range and oversized putting green. Public tee times can be booked online, and affordable memberships are available through the Leroy Springs system. This is high-quality golf with a short drive and zero pretension.

Tega Cay Golf Club – Tega Cay

The region’s only 27-hole course, you get three distinct nine-hole layouts for flexible play. Grande View’s 18th hole is a crowd favorite and a solid brag if you birdie it. The main combo—Carolina Pines and Grande View—forms a 6,516-yard, par-72 course known for rolling terrain, dramatic elevation changes, and stunning views of Lake Wylie. The Cove nine is great for shorter rounds or newer players. A full practice facility, restaurant overlooking the course and access to other recreational amenities round out the experience. Waterford Golf Club – Rock Hill

Easily accessible off I-77, Waterford is known for a strong layout, great greens and serious replay value. This championship 18-hole public course was designed by Hale Irwin. Playing up to 6,940 yards (par 72), offers well-groomed Bermuda fairways and a layout that brings water into play on 16 holes. Despite the challenge, it remains fair and enjoyable for all skill levels, with multiple tee options. Waterford is popular with Charlotte-area golfers seeking premium conditions without private club prices. Amenities include a driving range, pro shop and snack bar.
