Choosing Sides: The Catawba Nation & the Fight for Independence
Discover the important role of the Catawba Nation in the American Revolutionary War at Choosing Sides: The Catawba Nation & the Fight for Independence, on display at Kings Mountain Historical Museum.
Presented in partnership with the Catawba Cultural Center, the exhibit explores the Catawba Nation, also known as Yį Iswąre, or “People of the River,” and their involvement in the fight for independence. As warriors, guides and allies of the Patriot cause, the Catawba helped defend their homeland and surrounding communities while contributing to key moments in the Southern Campaign.
Through stories of courage, alliance and resilience, the exhibit offers a closer look at the Catawba people’s experiences during the Revolution and their lasting place in the history of the Carolina backcountry.
The exhibit is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
