9 Can’t-Miss Christmas Parades in South Carolina’s Olde English District

Small towns, twinkling lights and a few holiday traditions you probably won’t find anywhere else. Here’s where to catch a Christmas parade across the Olde English District this season.

There’s something about a small-town Christmas parade that makes the season feel official. Downtown streets fill with glowing floats, marching bands take over Main Street and neighbors bundle up along the route waiting for Santa to make his appearance.

Across South Carolina’s Olde English District, not every parade looks quite the same. One takes place on the water, another keeps things old-fashioned with horses and tractors, and in Cheraw, handmade lanterns light the way through downtown.

From longtime traditions to celebrations with a little personality of their own, these are nine Christmas parades worth adding to your holiday plans.

Date: Thursday, December 3
Time: To be announced
Location: Downtown Winnsboro, SC

Start the parade season in downtown Winnsboro, where the annual Christmas Parade brings the Fairfield County community together to welcome the holidays. Make an evening of it with a stroll through downtown and a little small-town Christmas spirit before the parade rolls through.

Date: Friday, December 4
Time: 6 PM
Location: Main Street, Union, SC

Union pairs its Christmas parade with another favorite holiday tradition: the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree. Find a spot along Main Street for the parade, then stick around as downtown lights up for the season.

Date: Friday, December 4
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Old Town Rock Hill, SC

Rock Hill does this one after dark. Lighted floats, marching bands, walking groups and performers fill Old Town during one of the biggest weekends of the season. The parade also falls during ChristmasVille, so come early or stay late to explore the rest of the festival.

Date: Saturday, December 5
Time: To be confirmed
Location: Downtown Lancaster, SC

Downtown Lancaster turns up the holiday lights for its annual Christmas celebration, with the parade rolling through the heart of the Red Rose City. Pair it with Lancaster Lights & Holiday Sights for a full day of shopping, family activities and holiday festivities downtown.

Date: Friday, December 11
Time: 6 PM
Location: Congress Street, Downtown York, SC

Historic downtown York makes a pretty good backdrop for a Christmas parade. Decorated floats covered in lights, marching bands, performers and local groups make their way down Congress Street for one of the city’s favorite holiday traditions.

Date: Saturday, December 12
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Papa Doc’s Shore Club, Lake Wylie, SC

Who says a Christmas parade needs a street? On Lake Wylie, boats decked out in lights and holiday decorations take over the water for the annual Lights on the Lake Holiday Boat Parade. The procession begins near Papa Doc’s Shore Club and travels around the Buster Boyd Bridge, with plenty of shoreline spots to watch the lights float by.

Date: 2026 date to be announced
Time: Evening
Location: Centennial Park, Downtown Cheraw, SC

Cheraw swaps traditional floats for something a little more unexpected. During ChristmasFest, families gather in downtown Cheraw before a procession of handmade paper lanterns lights up the evening. The lantern parade gives this Chesterfield County tradition a look all its own.

Date: Saturday, December 19
Time: 1 PM
Location: Lowrys, SC

No cars needed here. Lowrys takes Christmas back a few decades with a parade where every entry is either horse-drawn or pulled by a tractor. It’s nostalgic, wonderfully rural and easily one of the most distinctive holiday traditions in the Olde English District.

Date: Sunday, December 20
Time: 2 PM
Location: Boykin Mill Road, Boykin, SC

Expect the unexpected in Boykin. Thousands make their way to this tiny Kershaw County community each year for a country Christmas parade where homemade floats, tractors and plenty of personality are all part of the fun. Even Santa’s mode of transportation tends to be a surprise.

The parade might be the reason you come, but it doesn’t have to be the only stop. Arrive early to browse local shops, grab lunch in a historic downtown or stay after dark to see the lights before heading home.

And these nine are only a sampling of the holiday traditions happening across the Olde English District. Visit our events calendar for even more Christmas parades, markets, performances and seasonal celebrations happening throughout November and December.
