Learn about the leisure activities that fostered a sense of community among African Americans in the Carolina Piedmont during the 1950s - 1960s at this annual event. Bratton descendant Wali Cathcart will describe his experiences in Negro League baseball. Led by African American descendants and historic interpreters, families will enjoy various traditional activities including softball and baseball, schoolyard games and cooking. Concessions will be provided by Kenny Lyle’s Fish Fry. Admission: Adults $8; Seniors $7; Youth 4-17 $5; FREE for CHM members & ages 3 and under. This site features over thirty colonial and antebellum structures, including two house museums. The plantation spreads over 800-acres and includes farmed land with heritage breed animals, a Revolutionary War battlefield site with interpretive trail, and a nature preserve with miles of walking trails. Seasonal events, reenactments, and living history programs interpret life in the Carolina Backcountry from the 1750s to the 1850s. Award-winning African American programs are an essential part of telling the story of the Carolina Piedmont. Also a site on the SC Ag + Art Tour. Open Tues–Sat: 10 am–5 pm and Sun: 1–5 pm, except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission is charged. Limited handicap accessibility. I-77, exit 82-B.
