Performance Poet, Author, and Emcee, John M. Starino, will have his books available for sale at. Saturday December 15, 2018. John M. Starino has lived in South Carolina for over 30 years. He sought to balance his artistic efforts with being a husband, father and warehouse worker over many years. After being a caregiver to his parents he became more enthusiastic about writing poetry which led to his hosting of numerous Open Mics throughout the Midlands. His Phoenix Tongue Open Mic enjoyed a three year run, most notably with a lounge bar in West Columbia, SC called The Red Tub from 2005 to 2007. His most recent Open Mic was held at the White Rose Boutique in West Columbia and appropriately was named “White Rose Open Mic.” In his writings, John has habitually drawn from his past experiences which you will find in his four books of poetry -- Onion Season Pt. 1, Onion Season Pt. 2, They Are Only Spoons, and Full Circle. Full Circle was just released on November 11, 2018. John’s book of poetry, Full Circle, explores emotions which have come forward after a tragedy that occurred on March 4, 2017. His family home and domicile for 34 years was lost to a house fire. His wife, Maria Addy-Starino, succumbed to smoke inhalation and this book is dedicated to her. John participated in the first Rosewood Art & Music Festival’s first poetry competition in September, 2018, and his poem, Peace, was selected and awarded first place.
