Independence Day Celebration at Historic Brattonsville

Period dressed interpreters celebrate Independence Day 1850s style. Historical cooking demonstrations feature traditional summer recipes of the Carolina Piedmont. Activities include firing demonstrations at 12:30 & 3:30pm, dancing at 11am & 1pm, and the reading of the Declaration of Independence on the porch of the Col. Bratton House at noon & 3pm. This site features over thirty colonial and antebellum structures, including two house museums. The plantation spreads over 800-acres and includes farmed land with heritage breed animals, a Revolutionary War battlefield site with interpretive trail, and a nature preserve with miles of walking trails. Seasonal events, reenactments, and living history programs interpret life in the Carolina Backcountry from the 1750s to the 1850s. Award-winning African American programs are an essential part of telling the story of the Carolina Piedmont. Also a site on the SC Ag + Art Tour. Open Tues–Sat: 10 am–5 pm and Sun: 1–5 pm, except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission is charged. Limited handicap accessibility. I-77, exit 82-B.
