Hands-on activities for children of all ages demonstrate work and play in the 18th and 19th centuries. See and pet farm animals, including newborn lambs. Learn about historic farm chores with draft animals. Other activities include pony rides (aditional fee), Signora Bella, the Great 18th century Italian Equilibrist, candle dipping, historical cooking, house tours, blacksmithing, toys and games. This site features over thirty colonial and antebellum structures, including two house museums. The plantation spreads over 800-acres and includes farmed land with heritage breed animals, a Revolutionary War battlefield site with interpretive trail, and a nature preserve with miles of walking trails. Seasonal events, reenactments, and living history programs interpret life in the Carolina Backcountry from the 1750s to the 1850s. Award-winning African American programs are an essential part of telling the story of the Carolina Piedmont. Also a site on the SC Ag + Art Tour.
