Online Activities in the OED: Part 1- Lancaster County

Feeling restless with all the self isolating??

Well, we've got some ideas for you! We'll start today's ideas in Lancaster County!

Eric, our friend over at the Lancaster County Council of Arts, has a few projects for you to check out:

We have the  'Paws On Parade' public art tourism project. We have placed our fiberglass dogs painted by local artists (our first litter has 10 dogs) throughout Lancaster County. You can find more info including a map on our website or on our facebook page for the project.   Facebook's Paws on Parade LCCA website's Paws on Parade

In line with our 'Paws on Parade' project we also have the Dunlap Street Murals in our Cultural Arts District in Downtown Lancaster. This was a great project that involved over 100 people from our community helping mural artist, Russ Petty, paint these two beautiful murals with the tag line "See Yourself in Lancaster." They're a great place to visit and take some fun photos

As part of our Kennedy Center Partnership (LCCA, the City of Lancaster, and the Lancaster County School District) we also have the wonderful banner project that features the art of many of our district's kids on banners displayed on Main Street as well as on the giant cubes outside the Historic Springs House.

The newest designs were just installed last month featuring the theme of robots and dinosaurs. They really are wonderful.

The last project that we feature is our annual Red Rose Festival Photography Contest that coincides with the Red Rose Festival sponsored by the City of Lancaster in May. This year because of our current situation with COVID-19, we have switched to a completely online format. We are still accepting photo submissions (forms on the website/website link) from community members highlighting what they see as the "Heart of the Community." We will post all of the submissions to an online gallery in May and announce winners.

If you are walking around (or driving) in Lancaster checking out the dogs, murals, or banners, don’t forget to bring home dinner from one of the area restaurants. Take a look at which are open for drive through or pick up here:

You can also check out some great videos at Lancaster County’s  Benford Brewery website:

They’ll show you the whole process of making and canning beer. They also have some pretty funny homemade videos to check out!

Further out in Lancaster County is an extremely unique landscaped named 40 Acre Rock. You can check it out on some phenomenal drone footage from Drones in SC here:

Make sure you check out their other drone footage throughout South Carolina!
